The SharkSmart app offers valuable resources and information, including Alerts, to help you minimize the likelihood of a close encounter with a shark at NSW's beaches and estuaries.

• Maps: Utilize this feature to locate yourself in relation to beaches equipped with shark mitigation gear. Stay updated with alerts on shark-related incidents and access real-time information from NSW's VR4G tagged shark listening stations. Download the app and receive tagged shark alerts at specific times and locations that you choose.
• Watch Compatible: If you have a smartwatch running Wear OS by Google, the SharkSmart companion app enables you to receive alerts conveniently. Filter alerts based on your location using the "around me" feature or receive alerts for specific regions, times, or favorite beaches.
• Species: Enhance your knowledge by viewing images and information on both dangerous and non-dangerous sharks, as well as other marine animals that may pose a sting or bite risk.
• Social Media: Stay connected with official NSW Department of Primary Industries social media channels such as Facebook, NSW SharkSmart Twitter, and YouTube. In addition, easily access the department's SharkSmart webpage for the latest information updates.
• Information: Gain insight into the details of the NSW Shark Meshing (Bather Protection) Program.
• My Risk: Explore interactive features that include a fundamental risk assessment profile. This profile determines a user's "risky" or "safer" behavior rating based on factors known to affect shark bite risk. The risk rating can be adjusted through user input, such as swimming during sunrise or dawn, which increases the risk. While the risk level can be reduced by adjusting behavior, complete elimination of risk is not possible unless the user avoids entering the water altogether.
